Visitors to Hokitika more often than not use Hokitika as a base to explore the vast natural beauty of the West Coast. From Karamea in the north to Jacksons Bay in the south you will find some of the most stunning landforms,coastal drives,lakes and walking tracks to be encountered anywhere in the world.
We are easily accessible if you are travelling by Air NewZealand which has regular flights to and from Christchurch,the Tranz Alpine Rail Journey from Christchurch to Greymouth, or by car via the Lewis, Arthurs or Haast Passes.
With the Glacier region only 1hr and 50mins drive, Punakaiki only an hour drive and Shantytown just 20 minutes away, then Hokitika is the obvious base for your West Coast experience.
The best kept secret on the West Coast is it's people who are friendly, helpful, naturally resourceful and genuinely interested in people from different regions of NewZealand, countries of origin and cultures with a difference.
The Glacier Region

Hokitika is fast becoming the 'centrepoint' of the West Coast because of it's location giving comfortable driving access to all parts of the region as well as direct flights from Christchurch and return.
Only 30 minutes from the 'Tranz Alpine' train and 'Shantytown' with a 1 hour drive to Punakaiki and less than 2 hours to the 'Glacier Region'
Blue Sky and Mountains
Our 1 bedroom suites offer a separate queen bedroom, full kitchen, large lounge/living area with 32'' LCD Tv's, a single bed and also a double sofa bed . Capable of sleeping 2 couples + a single (max 5 persons)
Alternatively you can have 3 individuals or for the couples who want plenty a space to spread you have it here.
The bathroom is a standard shower and separate toilet ,and as in the studios we also have a 1 bedroom spa bath option.
Hokitika town centre is a short 8 minute walk from your accommodation where you will find a great selection of dining or takeaway options plus all the retails outlets expected of a vibrant rural service town which has a real passion for visitor satisfaction.

If you wish to stay in, you have all the facilities for self catering.
If you want a family day out then the famous Hokitika beach is only 5 minutes walk where you can do a spot of surfcasting while the kids indulge in some creative beach art using the plentiful driftwood, shells and coloured stones.
Hokitika sunsets are not to be missed and if you are still on the beach when the sun sets you can light a driftwood fire and cook sausages on a stick. How many places in the world can you do that!
Lake Kaniere, the Dorothy Falls and the Hokitika Gorge are an excellent day out with great summertime swimming at Lake Kaniere.When the weather is not so warm there is also a good heated indoor public swimming pool.
We will provide a lantern for you to visit the 'Glow Worm Dell' which is 5 minutes walk from your motel room and is absolutely free!!
Sunset Point
A fantastic place for photography, fishing, panoramic views of the town the Hokitika River and right back to the Southern Alps and 'Aoraki' Mt Cook.
Punakaiki-'Pancake Rocks'
An amazing coastal rock formation that provides a spectacular display of interaction between sea and land when the tide is high and the sea is rough!
Dorothy Falls
Another hidden gem to be found on your drive around Lake Kaniere.
Lake Kaniere
Well known for trout fishing, water skiing, boat racing and a popular place for locals who either live here or have holiday homes here.
The drive around Lake Kaniere will take you on to the Kokotahi and Kowhitirangi Valley which has large flat expanses of fertile dairy farm country and then on to the Hokitika Gorge.

Hokitika Wild Foods Festival
Attendance once topped 22,000 but these days there is a 12-15,000 people attend to indulge in some of the 'whackiest' food on the planet.
If you are planning to attend, make sure you book 12 months ahead.
This event is iconic in NewZealand now and an experience not to be missed.
